Want a behind-the-scenes look at how beautiful remodels actually come together?
Simply Home is looking for a dependable, organized, and proactive Materials Procurement Intern to support our Project Management team. This is a hands-on role for someone interested in construction, interior design, project management, procurement, or business operations.
You will get real exposure to the day-to-day coordination that keeps remodeling projects moving - from materials and vendors to pickups, deliveries, jobsite coordination, and installation readiness.
This is not a 'sit on the sidelines' internship. You will have real responsibilities, work directly with our team and vendors, and learn how residential design and construction come together in the real world.
What You'll Do
- Help track materials for active residential remodeling projects
- Pick up materials, fixtures, samples, and project supplies around Austin
- Assist with returns, exchanges, and replacement materials
- Communicate with vendors about orders, availability, lead times, and pickups
- Meet vendors, delivery teams, and occasionally trades at project sites
- Help check in materials and make sure the right items and quantities have arrived
- Photograph and report damaged, missing, or incorrect items
- Label, organize, and stage materials for upcoming installations
- Assist with approved project purchases and receipt tracking
- Update material information and project status in company systems
- Occasionally help our Design team with samples and other material-related needs
- Help solve the small day-to-day material issues that keep projects moving forward
What You'll Learn
- Residential remodeling and construction
- Interior design procurement and material selections
- Construction materials, finishes, and specifications
- Vendors, suppliers, trades, and jobsite coordination
- Material pricing, lead times, ordering, deliveries, returns, and replacements
- Project management systems, including JobTread
- How design selections move from concept to installation
- How a residential design-build company operates behind the scenes
Who We're Looking For
You do not need years of construction or design experience. We care much more about how you work.
- Are dependable and do what you say you are going to do
- Are naturally organized and detail-oriented
- Communicate clearly and proactively
- Aren't afraid to ask questions when something does not make sense
- Notice when something looks wrong instead of assuming it is fine
- Enjoy being useful, solving problems, and checking things off a list
- Can keep track of several small responsibilities at once
- Are comfortable communicating with vendors, trades, and team members
- Take feedback well and are eager to learn
- Like being on the go and do not want to sit behind a desk all day
- Have an interest in construction, interiors, design, operations, or project management
Basic Requirements
- Valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle
- Comfortable driving throughout the Austin area for project-related needs; approved business mileage is reimbursed
- Comfortable lifting and carrying materials or packages up to 20 pounds
- Basic comfort with email and spreadsheets such as Gmail, Google Sheets, or Excel
- Personal cell phone for work-related communication
- Access to a personal computer for remote work
- Comfortable learning new software and systems
Schedule
This is a part-time internship averaging 10-20 hours per week. We will establish consistent weekly availability around your schedule, with some flexibility as project needs change. Occasional flexibility outside your normal hours is appreciated when you are available, but it is not required.
Pay
$21/hour + reimbursement for approved business mileage
Why Simply Home?
You will be learning inside an active residential remodeling company where design, construction, project management, vendors, and clients all intersect.
You will not just learn what materials are - you will learn how decisions get made, how projects stay organized, how problems get solved, and what it actually takes to move a home renovation from design into construction.
